ch1: the son of the fricking sea shows up at my door.

i was having a normal goddamn day, for once in my life.

early release friday (YAY NO CROSS COUNTRY) and typing out my feelings on my (cough cough shameless plug) website.

today was good! no irritations, no distractions, and no annoying-

KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK. THE MOTHERFLIPPING DOOR.

"DON't. don't. just don't, jerry." I reprimanded my brother. "It's probably that weird stalky solicitor trying to sell us crap. He literally stood there until Mom got home."

"But what if it's Mom?" Jerry looked up at me. The little dude had no memory-

"Mom has keys." I deadpanned.

"Okay..." Even Jerry realized he fumbled on that one.

jerry and jack continued playing their roblox, i continued typing out the random woes of my life on my website.

the knocking would not stop. would not stop.

"what IS THAT?!" jack shrieked. it was clear he was either getting too into his game or he had just noticed the knocking.

"HELL IF I KNOW!" I shrieked right back at him.

"YOU CURSED. I'M GONNA TELL!" Jerry yelled.

"YOU WOULDN'T DAAAAAAARE." I made an overly dramatic hurt face.

It continued like that until the voice behind the door spoke.

"HEY, OPEN THE DANG DOOR!" The voice sounded old. Maybe one of Dad's highschoolers?

"WHO THE HECK-" I clamped a hand over jack's mouth. "shutupshutupshutup it could be the BUSINESS GUY. MR. JAWSUM." I hissed at him.

"Oh no, not Mr. Jawsum! Don't worry, i'll keep him quiet." Jerry attempted to keep Jack quiet, though it just turned into a screaming match between the two.

I guess they didn't get I was referencing an omori character. Thank god, it always irks me when they pronounce it oro-more-y.

i might have looked okay, but internally I was panicking.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

like who the actual FUCK is that

do they wanna hurt me? my brothers? i'm not prepared to decide, i don't wanna leave them-

what if it is really just mom or dad and i'm paranoid and just damaged my ears from listening to music too much

i should have listened to them about that.

oh god i don't wanna be kevin from home alone

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

"Hey! We know there's people in there, open the door please!" Another voice, female this time.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Reminded me of my friend, Star.

They would know what to do. Maybe I could call them-

Fuck. I never asked for their number.

shit, shit, shit, shit, i don't wanna die to a highschooler-

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Jerry seemed to sense my internal paranoia, he walked up to me and placed a hand on my shoulder.

"It's probably just a highschooler selling flyers or something... or one of your Girl Scout friends?"

"I feel bad for any Girl Scout who has to sell cookies during the summer..." Does that even happen anymore?

The door was banged on again, much louder than the first few times. I flinched. Jerry and Jack ran over to me. (more like jerry dragged jack over, but same thing)

"okay maybe it's NOT a highschooler." I kept my voice calm, though it shook a bit.

"What do we do?" Jerry asked.

Jack piped up. One word. "Nerf." He had this stoic expression on his face- the one where I knew that anyone on the receiving end of it was gonna get into trouble.

Jerry nodded rapidly. "You get the Sharkseeker, i'll get the auto-fire!"

They ran off to their room. I walked upstairs.

I rummaged around the clutter of the top of the stairs. If I could just find it...

Ha! There's the box for it!

The Samurai Edge airsoft replica.

I know how to shoot a gun... right?

Well, now's a good time to learn...

If Dad knew I was using his Resident Evil Samurai Edge replica... he would flip.

But he'll understand because I was using it to protect my brothers! Protect the house.

I'm the oldest, so I gotta keep them safe. I'm the man of the house now.

Jerry, Jack, and I stood at the doorway, each holding our respective weapons.

"If you don't open up, we'll be forced to open up instead." A voice came back from behind the door.

"Well it all started when I was a baby. See, I was born at a very young age, and that was very depression core for me-" Jack joked.

"Not that kind of opening up!" The female voice piped up again.

"Dude, shut up-" I hissed at him.

"We will kick the door down! We will kick the door down, that- that is what we mean." The first highschooler spoke up, although he sounded much more exasperated than scary at this point.

"Try me, BITCH!" My eyes narrowed.

Looking back at it, that was the most stupid decision of my day.

Because as soon as I said that, the door came crashing down with a wave of water. Where that came from? I don't know. But my jaw dropped as soon as I saw who was behind the door.

(i didn't really know what designs to do, so i just went for the book 'cause that's how i see them - a/n)

A boy, with black hair, sea green eyes, and a slightly faded orange t-shirt, his zip-up tied around his waist. His pen was in his pocket.

A girl, with blonde curly hair that was tied back, the most intense gray eyes I have ever seen, and the same orange t-shirt and jeans.

And another timid boy, orangey-brown curly hair, with what looked to be... horns poking out, a tie-dye t-shirt, and baggy jeans.

"Oh, what the fuck-" I didn't have much time to react before Jerry and Jack pelted them with Nerf Bullets.

"Ow- hey! Stop that!" The blonde girl annabeth exclaimed, though she wasn't looking at the twins with malice- just slight annoyance.

The timid boy's grover eyes widened as one of his fake feet was knocked off, revealing a... hoof? He quickly played a song on his reed pipes strung on a cord aorund his neck, which calmed Jerry instantly. He lowered his gun, but Jack wouldn't stop shooting. I don't know why he was so hyper, probably got into the candy before bed. As per usual.

I was too preoccupied worrying about my little brothers aggravagating the teens that I didn't notice the black-haired boy's percy worried eyes on me.

"Hey, put the gun down." His voice was surprisingly calm. "I know what you're thinking right now, I can see that you're scared- but there's no need to get violent. We can explain."

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

He didn't know it was airsoft?

"Back the fuck up." I kept my expression solemn, but with a hint of real fear, as if what I was holding was a real gun.

The girl raised her hands, in a placating "surrender" gesture. No one moved.

"I said BACK UP!" I shot at the timid boy's other foot. Everyone backed up, but Jack and Jerry looked confused when it barely left a dent.

The sea-eyed boy seemed a bit wary of me. "You okay, Gro-" I think he knew I knew. "Uh, I mean, dude?"

"Yeah." He just grumbled, and took the other fake foot off, revealing another hoof.

Jack's eyes widened. "WOAH, WHAT THE HECK-"

I smirked. "Thought so..."

The girl huffed, though she seemed more endearing than annoyed. "Airsoft...? You tricked us."

"I'm surprised you didn't notice, Chase." I smiled.

Annabeth's eyes narrowed. "How did you-"

"You'd be surprised how many people read these days."

She seemed to relax a bit. "You're good, Underscore."

The sea-eyed boy still seemed wary of me. "Who even are you? We were told that... this would be a legacy situation. Not... whatever this is."

"I could ask you the same, but... I think I know already." I smirked.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

"Mitchy, why are you being so freakin cryptic-" Jack elbowed me.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

"Look, Percy- we can talk."

Everyone seemed to relax, except for Jerry, who somehow hadn't put the pieces together yet- and Jack, who was confused as all hell.

"But, like- somewhere other than here, considering you just knocked my door off of it's hinges." Mom was gonna kill me for that.

"Oh.. right, yeah. Anyways-" Percy watched the trio of kids walk off the porch and down the street.

"Where are you going?" He followed.

"Park. Front door is broken. My mom will be pissed. We'll talk on the way." Jesus, is this how it feels to talk to me-

The group of us strolled along, heading down the steep hill that lead to the next neighborhood. The park was down that road.

"So... how do your parents feel about you wielding a firearm?" Grover tried to make conversation.

"It's airsoft, just pellets... and I barely know how to use it." I had played many games before such as Resident Evil and Halo that taught me aiming, but the only real shooting experience I had was from nerf guns and that one summer at Scout Camp.

"Nevertheless, it's still a weapon. And a noticeable one at that." Annabeth gave that point, although she had what looked to be like a bone-sword strapped at her hip.

"I mean, there's not much people out. It's like... seven." I shrugged. "People have pretty tricked up water guns these days."

Percy looked back down at the ground, with a wary face. "I should check that out sometime, for Estelle maybe..." He was fidgeting with his armor straps. I didn't blame his cautiousness, we were basically gonna walk through the culdesac leading to the park armed and stared at with accusing eyes.

Meanwhile, Jack and Jerry were racing eachother to the foot of the hill. They had already gotten to the middle of the sidewalk to the left, bobbing around with all their youthful energy.

(why did i just realize how old I sound with that sentence - a/n)
